Redbridge Cycling Centre is being used as a games time training
venue from July the 13th through to the 10th of
September. For the Olympics the Centre will be in use until 15:00 every day
until August the 15th. It will then be open completely for public
use in between the Olympics and Paralympics from August the 15th to
August the 20th. From August the 20th to September 10th
the Centre will be used as a training venue for the Paralympics until 13:00
each day.
From 15:00 we will be open to the public but there will be limited
facilities available within the building but all the tracks will be open. We
will be opening later into the evenings as well to allow the public access to
the circuit as well as allowing races and events to go ahead as normal at these
times.
The cycling centre was
chosen as a games time training venue as it met all the criteria asked for by
LOCOG in that it is within 15 minutes from Stratford, it is sport specific as
the track can be used and there is access to quieter roads out into Essex.
The closure was discussed at the last 2 Centre user group meetings in which
these details were explained and discussed. It was agreed by those present that
although there would be some disruption it was good that the Centre could still
be used in the afternoons and evenings. Of all the 25 games time training
venues the Redbridge Cycling Centre is the only one that has been allowed to be
open to the public in the evenings.
